STRESS

We all react or response differently to everyday life events. Stressful life events (some examples are-sudden changes of work hours, problems in relationship, Family problems, financial problems and other life upheavals) can provoke various responses in individuals ranging from mild emotional response to severe anxiety or depression.

Early recognition and intervention of responses to stressful situations can most certainly lead to much better prognosis and a healthy living than otherwise.

Some of the common early signs of stress are:

  • Irritability
  • Unprovoked anger
  • Apprehension
  • Excessive worries
  • Reduced physical activity
  • Physical responses- such as increased heart rate, increased muscle tension, dry mouth, poor appetite.

DEPRESSION

Life is great and most of the time is a bed of roses (hopefully) but at times at least once in everyone’s life can be rather cruel and these are the times when we all need help and support from family and friends. There are also times when this help is just not enough and it helps to recognise when to seek professional help.

Following are some of the common signs and symptoms which may suggest that you might be suffering from depression and need a professional helping hand. If you are suffering from one or more of the following do not suffer in silence and seek help early to give yourself the best chance possible for a good recovery and relive your life to the full as you deserve:

  • Excessive tearfulness
  • Avoiding going out
  • Quick to anger
  • Irritability
  • Unusual tiredness
  • Feeling worthless or hopeless
  • Physical symptoms such as- loss of appetite, recent loss of weight, reduced activity, isolation, loss of sexual interest, “sinking feeling for no reason”.

If you feel like this:

1.Talk to family and friends

2. Seek professional help
